How to Cut New Honda Emergency Key with Xhorse Dolphin II?

How to duplicate the new Honda emergency keys with the Xhorse Dolphin XP005L with M5 Clamp?

Here are the tips to cut New Style Honda Emergency key cut on the Xhorse Dolphin II or Condor II?

Select 2021+ Civic and then profile HONDA. Or newer MDX and profile ACURA.
The two sides of the key are cut differently. Take a very careful look at the tip of the key, one side is wider than the other.
A axis should have you with the key-ring connector facing up into the air. Decode A axis and then cut A axis.
Then switch machine to B Axis. Decode customer key with key ring connector facing down to the floor, then cut new key B axis.

Honda has introduced a new keyway for its 2021 and newer smart keys. These emergency keys are thinner, double-sided, and made of steel in their OEM form. However, for easier cutting, brass keys can be used as an alternative. In this guide, we’ll walk through the process of cutting one of these keys using the Xhorse Dolphin 2 key-cutting machine.

Key Features of the New Honda Emergency Key

Double-Sided Design: The key has an “A” side and a “B” side, each with distinct cuts.

Thin Profile: The key is noticeably thinner than previous models.

Material: OEM keys are steel, but brass keys are easier to cut and work well for duplicates.

Step-by-Step Cutting Process
1. Identifying the Key Sides

Before cutting, it’s crucial to identify the “A” and “B” sides of the key:

A Side: Look for a small slope at the tip of the key when held in a specific orientation.

B Side: When flipped over, the slope will appear in the opposite direction.

2. Setting Up the Xhorse Dolphin 2

Navigate to the key selection menu on the Dolphin 2. The new Honda key is labeled as “SY” in the machine (note that this naming may vary).

Enter the cut codes obtained from decoding the lock. In this example, the cuts for the “A” side were 3 5 1 3 1.

On the machine’s screen, switch from the “A Side” to the “B Side” option.

Enter the cut codes for the “B” side (in this case, 3 5 4).

Proceed with cutting the “B” side.

5. Finishing and Testing

Remove any brass flakes or debris from the key after cutting.

Test the key in the lock to ensure it operates smoothly. The key should only insert one way and turn without issues.

Tips for Success

Double-Check Orientation: Always verify the “A” and “B” sides before cutting to avoid errors.

Use Brass for Practice: If you’re new to cutting these keys, brass blanks are more forgiving than steel.

Conclusion

Cutting the new Honda emergency key on the Xhorse Dolphin 2 is straightforward once you understand the double-sided design and proper orientation. By following these steps and paying attention to detail, you can create a functional duplicate key with ease.

How to Tell if Xhorse Dolphin II Battery is Dead?

XHORSE Dolphin XP005L Battery Working Principle & Charging Failure Analysis:

1. Battery Structure

  • The battery consists of 7 individual cells managed by a Battery Management System (BMS).

2. BMS Communication Failure Symptoms

  • If the battery charge level is missing from the display, the BMS has stopped communicating. Possible causes:

    • The green connector is not fully seated in the battery pack.

How to Tell if Xhorse Dolphin II Battery is Dead 1

    • The BMS entered sleep mode due to critically low pack voltage (non-recoverable if voltage drops too low).

3. Charging Failure Causes

  • Failed cell(s): A single faulty cell can prevent charging.

  • Voltage imbalance: The BMS halts charging if cell voltages deviate beyond safe limits.

A battery refusing to charge can be caused by a failing cell in the battery pack. To diagnose:

  1. Go to Settings and touch the Battery to open the battery screen.

  2. On the VS, you will see the voltage of each cell.

  3. The 8th and final voltage reading shows the difference between the highest and lowest cell voltages.

The BMS will likely stop charging if it detects an abnormal cell voltage.

Xhorse Dolphin II and CGDI Godzilla Which is Better?

Choosing the right key cutting machine is crucial for locksmiths, whether you’re a mobile professional or shop-based. Two top-tier options are the Xhorse Dolphin XP005L (Dolphin II) and the CGDI Godzilla. Here’s a detailed comparison to help you decide which one suits your needs.

Xhorse Dolphin II vs CGDI Godzilla

Dolphin II vs. CGDI Godzilla Comparison

  1. Unbeatable Portability

The Dolphin II is designed for locksmiths on the move. Its compact, lightweight build and built-in rechargeable battery allow you to take it anywhere – whether you’re servicing cars, homes, or businesses on-site. No need for a constant power source like the Godzilla, which ties you to a shop.

  1. Advanced Touchscreen & Wireless Connectivity
  • 5-inch adjustable touchscreen for effortless operation.
  • Bluetooth & Wi-Fi support for seamless software updates via the Xhorse app.
  • Over-the-air updates ensure your machine always has the latest features and key compatibility.

The Godzilla lacks wireless capabilities, meaning manual updates and fewer tech-forward advantages.

  1. Superior Clamp System & Key Compatibility

The M5 Clamp on the Dolphin II handles a wider variety of keys with precision, including high-security and automotive keys. While the Godzilla can cut standard keys well, it doesn’t match the Dolphin’s adaptability for modern locksmithing needs.

  1. Future-Proof Investment

With regular software upgrades, the Dolphin II evolves with industry trends, ensuring long-term usability. The Godzilla, while cheaper upfront, may require costly replacements or upgrades sooner.

Godzilla: A Good Machine, But Not the Best

The CGDI Godzilla is a budget-friendly, durable option for shop-based locksmiths, but it lacks:
– Portability (no battery, requires constant power)
– Wireless features (no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi)
– Latest tech advancements (manual updates, no touchscreen.

Conclusion: The Dolphin II Wins

CGDI Godzilla is ideal forLocksmiths who prioritize durability and affordability for a fixed workstation.

If you want a high-performance, portable, and future-proof key cutting machine, the Xhorse Dolphin XP005L is the clear winner. It’s the best choice for locksmiths who value mobility, efficiency, and staying ahead of the competition.
